It is with a deep sense of honour and responsibility that I assume charge as the ViceChancellor of the University of Gour Banga. Located in the historic land of Gour— once the seat of Bengal’s rich cultural and intellectual heritage — our university carries a proud legacy and a noble mission: to extend the light of higher education to the people of this region and beyond.

Over the years, the University of Gour Banga has made steady progress in academics and research, fulfilling the aspirations of students from diverse backgrounds, many of whom are the first generation in their families to enter higher education. As we move ahead, our collective vision must be to transform this institution into a vibrant centre of learning that harmonizes tradition with modernity and regional aspirations with global perspectives.

The university stands at a promising juncture, blessed with a dedicated faculty, enthusiastic students, and committed administrative staff. My foremost priorities will be to strengthen academic standards, enrich the research culture, enhance infrastructural facilities, and ensure a transparent and efficient administration. We will continue to promote innovative teaching methods, interdisciplinary research, and meaningful collaborations with academic institutions and industries. Equally important is our resolve to preserve and celebrate the cultural richness, linguistic diversity, and social harmony that characterize the districts of Malda and East and West Dinajpur.

I firmly believe that education is the most powerful instrument of empowerment. Together, we will strive to make this university a symbol of inclusive growth — one that not only disseminates knowledge but also nurtures values, sensitivity, and social responsibility.
